The apostle John in the book of Revelation, Chapter 17, is shown a picture of the woman, Mystery Babylon, seated upon many waters and who is also riding the beast. This vision is one of the tests of the men of wisdom. Those who have the true understanding of GOD can both identify, and reveal the mystery of the woman, and the beast on which she rides.
I WILL TELL YOU
THE MYSTERY OF THE WOMAN
There came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. Revelation 17:1-3
The woman, Mystery Babylon, is clothed with royal clothing signifying her honor and authority, over all of mankind. In the eyes of the world, she is rich and wealthy, covered with gold and precious stones. To those who dwell in darkness, Mystery Babylon is admired and worshipped. She is the pride of the whole earth. People from all the nations of the world come unto her, seeking pleasures in the life of this present age from the wealth which is in her hand. Her great riches are the splendor of her glory. Mystery Babylon is also the false religious system of man and the mother of apostate Christianity. The nations of the earth have been deceived by her spiritual immorality. She is worshipped by those who are perishing, who have been deceived by her false doctrines and damnable heresies.
In the eyes of GOD, she is full of abominations, and the filth of her fornication and wickedness. She is the mother of all the harlots and abominations of the earth! Not only is she full of wickedness and sin, but she leads the nations into the same abominations, and the whole earth has been deceived by her vain glory! She spreads her wickedness among the whole world, thereby corrupting the nations, and seducing them in her immorality. She has promised the nations freedom and happiness, all the while leading them into the slavery of sin! She claims to have the light of the gospel, and to be the bride of Christ, but in reality, she is the bride of Satan, the great deceiver of the nations. “And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.”
John witnesses the woman is drunk, intoxicated, having lost her right mind, she is delirious, not from wine, but from blood - the blood of the saints of the Most High GOD.
Mystery Babylon has persecuted and martyred the saints of the GOD of Heaven throughout the ages. Though her true nature is revealed to John, he too, in his mortal mind wonders with great admiration at her beauty and her wealth. The angel then admonishes John, “Why are you marveling? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and the beast that carries her.” The woman has no power of her own, for she is being carried, and lifted up by the beast himself. She is his testament to the peoples of the world, who follow her in her carnality and are seduced by her immorality.
And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns. Revelation 17:6-7
THE BEAST WAS, AND IS NOT,
AND SHALL ASCEND AGAIN
The angel then begins to reveal the mystery of the beast, “who was, and is not” . At the time of this writing, the beast is no longer in power, but he shall come again, ascending out of the bottomless pit, only to go into perdition for eternity.
The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world ...And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, have received no kingdom ...receive power as kings one hour with the beast.
This is the riddle of Revelation 17 which the men of wisdom can discern:
The meaning of the seven heads of the beast.
The meaning of the seven mountains on which the woman sits.
The identity of the seven kings, five of which have fallen.
The identity of the beast itself, which is the 8th king, and of the seven.
The meaning of the ten horns, which rule as kings for one hour with the beast.
The identity of the woman Mystery Babylon.
THE GOD OF HEAVEN GIVES WISDOM
UNTO THE WISE
This mystery has been revealed by the LORD Himself, for the mind of man has not revealed this matter. The seven heads of the beast are both governments and institutions used by the beast, to exercise authority and dominion over the earth. In its manifest forms, the beast appears as both kings and mountains. These heads signify authority, one who is over, or above, in the seat of power. At the time of the writing of this prophecy, the sixth king sits in Rome, represented by the two legs of iron of Daniel’s prophecy.
The legs of iron are also symbolic, for under the rule of Rome, the beast now transforms itself, and divides into two diverse institutions of power. The beast is the great deceiver, and it is always seeking to hide its true nature from mankind. From the time of the Roman empire, the beast began operating through two diverse institutions, which are seen in the vision as kings and mountains. From these two bases of power, the beast will seek to subdue the people of the earth under its tyranny and depravity.
THE BEAST IN ITS VISIBLE FORM
KINGDOMS OF GOVERNMENT
The beast first appears as seven kings. They are the visible form of the beast appearing as human governments. The word for king in the original Greek is basileus (bas-il-yooce'), which means a foundation of power, a sovereign or a ruler. The seven kings represent seven diverse empires or governments which will rule over the entire earth. Through the thrones of these seven kings, the beast himself, who is the eighth king, exercises his authority as the supreme ruler over the political realm of mankind.
The seven kings which conquer the earth under the authority of the beast are:
Assyria
Egypt
Babylon of the Chaldeans
The Medees and Persians
Greece under Alexander
Rome
The New World Order of United Nations
The first five kingdoms had fallen by the writing of this prophecy. Rome, the sixth was still in power. And the other, which is not yet come, is the New World Order. This final kingdom shall only abide for a little while - 42 months. Each of the kingdoms of the beast conquered the known world at that time. The first two had risen and fallen from power when Daniel was shown the prophetic revelation of what was yet to come. They were excluded from his vision, having already passed from the scene, yet these were also the beast exercising his dominion in the political history of man. Though appearing as independent sovereigns, these kings are puppets of the beast. The seven kings sit upon the throne of the beast, and rule in his authority, over the political realm of mankind.
THE BEAST HIMSELF IS THE EIGHTH KING
We are told “The beast himself is the eighth king, and he is of the seven.” This tells us the true nature of the seven, for the beast himself has been king in these empires all along.
The beast does not rule in his own right, or in his own name, but rather rules through these horns which he has lifted up - his seven kings. The identity of the beast who “was, and is not, but shall ascend out of the bottomless pit” is Satan, the great dragon.
We are told “He was, and is not” for he “was” in authority over all the earth at one time, until JESUS CHRIST took the sins of the world upon Himself. In shedding His Precious Blood as a perfect sacrifice to GOD in His death on the cross, Jesus stripped the devil of his power, having canceled the accusations against us. Then the beast was cast down, and now “he is not” in authority. All power and authority is now in the hands of JESUS CHRIST, and the Holy Spirit who restrains the beast, will allow him a little time to rule the kingdom of the earth once again, in the last half of the 70th week of Daniel.
Scripture testifies of this judgment on the prince of the world, the beast. “Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.” 3 He was judged at the cross, and then he was cast out of heaven into the bottomless pit. “Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.” 4 The chosen of the LORD, now have the authority, because the beast is no longer the ruler of the earth. “I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” 5 Oh what praise and thanksgiving should this truth generate in our hearts. Lord Jesus, thank you for suffering and dying for our sins. Thank you for the power of your Blood as the Lamb of GOD, and for your Word, which is our testimony, whereby we can overcome the dragon. We praise your name LORD JESUS, for your amazing grace and the riches of your mercy. Open our eyes to see the incredible price you paid to redeem our lives. Help us LORD, to live holy and pure lives in this present hour, that we may give glory and honor to you. LORD give us ears to hear, and hearts to obey you, that we might glorify and lift up your Holy Name. AMEN.
In the present hour, the beast is not in authority! Praise GOD! JESUS CHRIST IS LORD and the keys of death and Hades are in His hand, yet the beast continues to work, and await the day which is coming soon, when he will be released for a short time. “For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming.”
The Scripture testifies the little prince will come after the working of Satan. “Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause GOD shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” (II Thessalonians 2:7-8) The prince is the seventh king of the beast. He will lead the seventh and final kingdom. The beast is himself the eighth king who works in his people. The sons of darkness abide in the beast, even as the true believers, the chosen elect of GOD, abide in Christ.
